Types Of Skin Lesions
Benign
Non-cancerous skin growths like moles, skin tags, and cysts are common and usually harmless. While they don’t pose a health risk, removal for comfort or cosmetic reasons is an option.
Pre Cancerous Lesions
Examples are solar keratosis and Bowen’s disease.
Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC)
BCC is the most common type of skin cancer. This has the best cure rate with surgery. They are slow growing and rarely spreads to other areas of the body.
Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC)
SCC’s are relatively faster growing more aggressive cancers than BCC’s. They occur mostly in sun-exposed areas, such as the face, backs of the hands & to the back of the legs. It can also spread to distant organs’ Surgical removal is the treatment of choice and can be life threatening if untreated.
Malignant Melanoma
Australia has one of highest incidence rate of melanoma in the world. It is the least common but has highest mortality rate. Melanoma may occurs on sun exposed area or may develop in pre-existing mole or appear as a new. If diagnosed in time melanomas can be cured with surgical treatment alone.

Treatment options vary based on the type of lesion and may include surgical removal, cryotherapy, or topical medications.
